Fused Glass Workshop for Adults

Presenter: Shelly Lenox

This presenter brings over 20 years of experience as a fused-glass artist to our studio to teach this age-old art, which joins pieces of colorful glass together by melting it at high temperatures in an electric kiln.  You will be amazed at how quickly you can learn to master this process and get spectacular works of art.  Projects will include creating a dish, pendant and earrings.  All supplies are included. For beginning and intermediate students.

Beginning Guitar for Adults, Level 1

This class will teach you all the basic skills required to play chords, rhythms and scales so you can play your favorite songs and new ones too.

This class will be a continuation of the Level 1 beginning guitar class and will introduce new material.  Students should have basic guitar skills in chording, strumming, and finger picking as well as an understanding of timing and harmony in music.

Spring Summer Ukulele Jam Session 

Workshops for Winter/Spring 2017

6 Wednesdays - May 3- June 7 4:00-5:00 PM

Presenter: Mavis Hansen

Come and play the ukulele.  All Levels welcome. Take this time to get away from the daily grind and just play with friends.  Its a great way to hone your skills and get in a good practice with others.  Some instruction included.  Bring songs you want to learn.  Our ultimate goal is to be able to perform at the Artist Marketplace on the first Saturday of the month. Bring your ukulele, a stand and a notebook for all the new songs you will get.  

6-10 participants (but more are welcome).  Price $60 for members/discount 10% for nonmembers 

 

After School Art for Children Grades K – 5th grade

There is always something fun to do at the Arts Center after school!  Students will develop their art skills and learn new techniques in a wide variety of media including pencil, crayon, marker, charcoal, pastels, paint, clay, collage, printmaking, fabric and more! Come to the Arts Center after school to find new ways to express yourself artistically.  You will explore techniques in a wide variety of mixed media including painting, pencil, collage, printmaking, charcoal, india ink, pastels, watercolor, fiber arts and more! Embodied Mythic Storytelling Workshop, Age 16 to Adult

6 Saturdays: February 18 – March 25, 1:00 – 4:00PM
Presenter: Bridget Carlson and Sri van der Kroef

In this workshop series, you will be guided through a process of discovering your own mythic story and bringing it to life through various creative mediums, including poetry, creative writing, drawing/painting, expressive movement, and costuming. Materials will be provided. After completing the workshop series, you will have an opportunity to participate in the next Mythic Storytelling performance event.

Henna Workshop, Age 12 - Adult

Experience oil painting in a new way as you reproduce Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” in a step-by-step process with the guidance of a classically-trained fine arts instructor from Stroganov University in Moscow.  You’ll learn about composition, mixing colors, and basic brush and palette knife techniques. Mood and atmosphere in a painting allows the viewer to share an experience or a feeling. This workshop will demonstrate how to take your paintings beyond just describing an object.  Cathy Quiel will instruct students to create a defined mood in which these objects/scenes exist through color, design and psychodrama!  In a fun atmosphere,  the workshop will utilize demonstrations, lecture, handouts, and individual and group critique.  A materials list will be emailed prior to the workshop.

Creating Photographs With Impact for Adults

Join award winning professional photographer Chuck Place as you learn how to strengthen your compositions and create compelling photographs in any light source using a wide variety of techniques, including selective focus, motion blur, manipulation of light sources, backlighting, contrast, color saturation, rule of thirds, forced perspective and many more. By the end of this class, you will have the tools to pre-visualize new, dynamic photographs, making the great leap from taking photos to creating photographs with impact.

Painting Birds and Blooms with Watercolors and Inks, Ages 12 to Adult

Beginning Temari for Adults

What is temari? It is the 1000-year old folk art form and craft sometimes called Japanese Thread Balls. With humble beginnings as children’s toys, temari are now displayed as elegant and beautiful pieces of art. Temari can provide thousands of patterns to explore. The color variety that can be achieved through this “stitchery on a sphere” is endless. Bring small thread snip scissors with you. All other basic materials are included.

Viking Knit Bracelet Workshop: Ages 12 – Adult

Sunday, March 12, Noon – 4:00 PM

Presenter: Paula Gregoire-Jones

Design and create a Viking knit bracelet using a Viking knit tool we will make from a dowel and wire. Learn how to attach cones, optional beads and a clasp. We will make and finish a single knit Viking Knit bracelet using 26-gauge wire. There will be a number of bracelet variations you can choose from. This is a beginning class requiring no previous wire-wrapping experience. All materials will be provided.

Landscape Painting Workshop (Plein Air) for Adults

Traditional European Egg Decorating for Adults

Join Polish born artist, Danuta Bennett, who learned the art of egg-decorating as part of her heritage, as she introduces you to some of the most common techniques using traditional methods from various European regions. Techniques will include scraping, painting, and the wax/dye method. You will learn how to prepare the eggs for coloring, explore the differences between the various styles, and understand the symbolism of colored eggs.  All materials included.
