Learn to make your own unique beads using colorful quilting fabrics, then string your completed beads on “stretch magic” with a selection of stone, glass, or plastic beads to make easy-to-wear necklaces or bracelets.  

This is a great class for all ages. No experience required.  All materials provided, but bring your own fabric if you like.  (Open to ages 8-12 with an accompanying adult.)

Four-day class series.  Early learners ages 0-5 and their caregivers can join Jena Jenkins for a morning of creative movement through song and dance, listening to animated stories, and making simple crafts.  

There will also be informative discussion topics for caregivers and toddlers.  Jena has an M.A. in Psychology and extensive experience as a presenter of Preschool Story Time.

Through demonstrations, lecture and playful splashing of watercolor, participants will learn methods they can put into practice while painting scenes of charming Carpinteria. Students will utilize photos and/or paint on location near the Carpinteria Arts Center. Techniques in painting foliage and street scenes will be discussed and demonstrated. There will be an emphasis on light and shadow and composition.

Hearty and adventurous acrylic and oil painters can hone their skills in the art of painting nocturnes en plein air.  With the goal of capturing the “feeling of night” and timeless light through the technique of chiaroscuro, we will paint the moonrise and moonset in late July.

Painting locations will be in the Carpinteria/ Summerland area, but in case of fog, we will travel above the clouds to capture the moonrise. Painters should have their own portable field easels and accoutrements. Book lights will be provided.
