Bellas Artes-7

Established in 2004, Bellas Artes offers in depth arts and cultural education to residents of Dahlia Court, Chapel Court and Casas de los Flores. Ninety percent of the residents are of Mexican and Latin American descent. The program is open to all ages and member of the whole family. All materials and expenses are provided.Bellas Artes is sponsored by Peoples’ Self-Help Housing and the Carpinteria Valley Arts Council.

The primary goal is to promote self esteem and maintain cultural heritage by combining education in the rich tradition of Latin American arts with projects specific to the North American culture and physical realities of the participants.

The program includes monthly after school workshops, 2-day spring and holiday workshops, and week long summer intensive workshops at each location. The Carpinteria Valley Arts Council (CVAC) provides year round exhibition space for pieces created by Bellas Artes artists. In 2015 theBellas Artes artists were featured in an all Gallery show for art created in CVAC Programs. A beautiful traditional reception honored all the artists and the patrons.

Periodic art and culture based excursions are also part of the program.
