02/17 - An Economy of Grace

In the 1970s, Kehinde Wiley was inspired to become an artist by childhood visits to the Huntington library outside of Los Angeles.
In 2018, he painted President Obama's entry to the National Portrait Gallery.
This film follows his project of classical portraits of African-American women in 18th/19th century poses whom were street-cast in 21st century New York City. Read more »

The Lynda Fairly Carpinteria Arts Center

The Lynda Fairly Carpinteria Arts Center is in the heart of downtown Carpinteria. We offer art and arts programming to benefit the whole community, from the mountains to the sea: young and old, locals and visitors alike.

We believe the arts enrich our lives in countless ways, and we aim to share the benefits of art with you.

Come into the gallery to see the latest exhibition of local artwork.

Sign up for a one-day or ongoing workshop to develop new skills or learn a new way to express yourself.

Come hear live music one evening.

Join in a celebration at one of our artists’ receptions.

We have a film series, occasional poetry events, and community art installations as well, so take your pick of how you want to bring the arts into your life.

We are a center for the arts in Carpinteria, and we hope to see you here!
